Artist's Statement
I am constantly drawn to the rugged coastline of North Antrim, particularly a small village not far from my studio - the sea and rocks at Ballintoy Harbour hold a particular fascination and I spend many hours there sketching and observing the ever changing contrast between the sky and sea. I am compelled to capture the incessant and elusive power of the waves, the cries of the gulls and the salt in the air.
The North Antrim coastline and the Glens as a whole, both areas of natural outstanding beauty, offer a wealth of source material and I feel privileged to live amongst such constant inspiration. I will always feel the urge to express myself through a paintbrush. The constant movement of the sea and the need to capture this energy on canvas and paper continues to be a learning process. I aim to convey this poetry and drama through my paintings.
